ABOUT SSEF

The Sand Springs Education Foundation was formed as a non-profit 501c3 organization in 1989. The Foundation was created to develop supportive community and private sector relationships with the Sand Springs School System. The Foundation was formed for the purpose of collecting and distributing contributions from individuals, businesses and organizations for the benefit of the students in the Sand Springs Public Schools.

The Sand Springs Education Foundation had it's beginnings with an old fashioned "box meal" fundraiser for Sand Springs Schools and a dream of local business man Montie Box. Sand Springs residents were challenged to bring supplies and cash to support Sand Springs Schools as their "tickets" for a free chicken dinner at Charles Page High School. Mr. Box presented former Superintendent Wendell Sharpton a matching $5,000 to launch the Sand Springs Education Foundation.

In 1990 a "Founding Donors Dinner" was held to begin the supportive capital for the Foundation. The Board of Trustees set a goal of $100,000 and the $500 plate Founding Donors Dinner was the initial investment needed to develop the endowment fund from which the upcoming Grants Program was started.

The Foundation has been helping district teachers for almost 20 years. Some of the grants have helped to secure special equipment, while others have been used to implement innovative projects which emphasize new teaching approaches for their students. It is the Foundation's desire to help enhance the learning opportunities for the students in our district. The SSEF Grants Program is a means for you to add to the overall enrichment and creativity in your classroom.

There are many ways to help the Sand Springs Education Foundation. Besides making a monetary donation to the Foundation, we always welcome Themed Baskets for our Silent Auction, held before the Sandite Hall of Fame event. Volunteers can assist with our National Honor Society students who help serve our Hall of Fame Banquet.

When the Foundation holds the Annual Golf Classic, volunteers can help with hospitality on the golf course during the tournament. Someone with great recruiting skills can assist the SSEF by enlisting new sponsors for the tournament.
